The first big expansion steps up the challenge for Descent players
By Magnus Mercury
Labyrinth of Ruin is the first "large" expansion for Descent 2nd Ed., and provides an alternative campaign to the one in the base game. Overall, the quests in the new campaign are a little more complex, so I'd recommend playing it only if your group has already completed the Shadow Rune campaign and is familiar with the game.

For the Overlord, the new monsters are very offense-oriented; the Volucrix Reavers have the Skirmish ability, which lets them move and attack in one action, and the Arachyura's Pincer ability allows it to attack two adjacent heroes with one attack action. The new Basic deck of Overlord cards can grant additional benefits when used on heroes of a certain class, but like the new campaign the cards are a little less straightforward than the original set's Basic Overlord deck.

The new heroes seem to do well at holding their own, particularly Logan Lashley (the Treasure Hunter) and Pathfinder Durik (the Beastmaster). Logan's ability to manipulate Search Cards can really allow the party to rack up a significant amount of coin, which in turn allows them to be better equipped with Shop Item cards. Pathfinder Durik is a competent Warrior, and his Wolf familiar provides benefits to nearby heroes as additional Beastmaster skills are earned. Dezra the Vile (the Hexer) seems a little more difficult to play, as her Hex ability requires some forethought to be used effectively. However, she can provide a significant combat leverage if Hexes are applied to stronger monsters or Lieutenants.

Overall, the Labyrinth of Ruin expansion is a hit with my gaming group, and steps up the challenge for both heroes and the Overlord with the new campaign. If you've already played through the Shadow Rune campaign and enjoy Descent, I highly recommend you pick up this expansion!

Great Expansion
By Sean Phillips
Great new quests line. Even more complicated than the first series of quests! It adds a lot of different strategies and replayability. Great for heroes and Overlords.

It did ship with two broken figures... but FFG promptly delivered the new figures via First Class Mail after filling out a simple form on-line.

Really love the new map tiles. Adds more details to quests. Plus the new heroes/classes and monster are really impressive.
