Miniature War-Gaming Without the Barriers to Entry.
By MechaBri-Zilla
Warhammer Diskwars is a miniature style wargame without the miniatures.

Each unit in the game is a disk which flips end over end for movement rather than having to measure out the distance. Disks come in three different sizes and can represent hero's, siege engines, grunts, archers, mages, etc. Melee Combat occurs when one disk flips onto another disk and 'pins' it. But there are also ranged attacks which are resolved using a dice mechanic.

Included in the box are all of the components needed to play the game with up to 4 players and it includes four armies, Empire, Orcs, High Elves, or Chaos. There are a total of 38 small disks, 16 medium disks, and 8 large disks; 5 pieces of terrain, and all of the cards and tokens needed to get started. Each faction has their own playing style and flavor, the Empire is focused on synergies between their various pieces and their hero's, Orcs are straight up brawlers focused on getting into combat as fast as possible and laying down a lot of damage, High Elves have the best magic and ranged combat in the game and favor a defensive play style, while Chaos has some of the hardest to kill units in the game and a lot of interesting special rules.

This game is great for people who have always loved the concept of miniature wargaming but don't play because they can't afford the armies, they don't like to paint and assemble the models, or like me, if your life is just too busy for the long and involved hobby that any miniatures based game really is.

As a word of warning, this game follows the same 'living' model that FFG has been using over the last few years. Though what is in the box is more than enough for hundreds of hours of varied and interesting game play, there will be regular set expansions to this game. Unlike many other customizable games these expansions are not randomized, instead each one will contain a set number of specific disks, which means you can buy only the ones that interest you rather than searching endlessly for that one piece to complete your perfect army. But if you plan to play this game competitively it's good to know what you are in for in terms of keeping up with the Jonses.

That said, this game is great for both casual and serious gamers alike and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a strategy game that is easy to learn, fast to play, and never plays the same way twice.

30min Miniature Wargame, great Intro game, great value.
By Leonardo Lee
Like the review above me says, this game is a pretty intuitive game. The skills that make the units unique and changes the game mechanics are all summed up in keywords just like MTG(Magic the Gathering) or a FFG(Fantasy Flight) LCG(Living Card Game). Furthermore from my understanding, this game is great at distilling the basic game play of Warhammer Fantasy and to an extent other Ancient/Fantasy miniature war games. The games go quick, because they are only about 5 rounds.

Gameplay:
There are 3 phases:
Activation Phase — This phase players play a card, the general strategy type on the card chooses the order of activations, then these cards resolve an effect. After that people do movement, ranged attacks, magic attacks, and pinning (where a disk lands upon a disk) occur.
Melee Phase — Pinned disks resolve from top to bottom with their melee values, disks have two values: one for pinning and the other for being pinned. Each disk involved in a scrum (situation where there are pinning involved) can melee attack something one for this phase.
End Phase — The part of the turn where token clean up happens.

Rulebook [...]
Note: This game is not necessarily of the living model that FFG uses, however they plan on releasing installments of races and factions, these will be geared toward one either Order or Chaos. These boxes will seem to have great value containing 3 regiments full of units: [...]

Great product, hard to read manual
By Cresten St.Clair
I thought this product was great, but the manual is just awful!! The rules are simple, and the manual horribly obfuscates them.

The reference material on BoardGameGeek do a much better job then the actual OOTB manual.
